After we hired a builder for our home renovation – and we’re hung out to dry by them – I (Sam) was left figuring out how to be a general contractor for our HUGE home renovation/remodel/addition, all while Sean and I both worked full time jobs. Feeling a bit unsure of how I was going to do this, and completely out of my element Sean and I got to work researching the steps we would need to do to basically rebuild our entire house from the ground up.

One of the places I’ve always looked to for inspo and to make me feel like I’m not alone in the male-heavy field of construction, is the BuildHer Collective page on Instagram. They were a huge source of knowledge and inspiration that helped remind me I could in fact get this freaking thing done – and that we didn’t need that builder anyways!

When the girls at BuildHer Collective reached out and asked me to be featured in an episode of their podcast I immediately said yes. Not only was our story podcast worthy, but they even asked to feature me in THEIR BOOK! Yes. In print. Live and in color!
